How to Start Your Car in the Freezing Cold!
Freezing cold weather can take a toll on your car and the batteries. That’s why it’s important to be prepared for the winter season and any car troubles that might ensue. Be sure to have your car properly maintained and winterized by an ASE certified automotive technician. But if you should find yourself having trouble getting your car started here are some tips that could get you out of a bind…
- Shut the car door and turn off all of the accessories. This includes the heater, blower, radio and lights. This will help to maximize your starting power.
- Turn the Key and hold it for 20 seconds. This should help get the engine going. Don’t hold the key any longer than 20 seconds, as overworking the starter could cause mechanical damage. If your engine fails to crank, wait a few minutes and try again.
- Consult the owners manual. Almost every vehicle today has cold-starting instructions in the operator’s manual. Refer the manual for further information.
